Kinabalu Park Expected To Be Declared Unesco Global Geopark By 2022 Kinabalu unesco global geoparks. the kinabalu unesco global geopark (kuggp) is located in the north western part of sabah, malaysia. the area covers three districts: kota belud, kota marudu and part of ranau. the kinabalu unesco global geopark covers an area of 4,750 km2. it covers the entire district of kota marudu (1,775 km2), kota belud. Covering an area of 4,750 km 2, the geopark is home to many endemic plants and animals, including 90 orchid species that exist only on mount kinabalu, and the crimson headed partridge bird not found anywhere else on earth. kinabalu park, a world heritage property inscribed in 2000, represents about 16% of the total area of the geopark.

The global geoparks network (ggn) (also known as the global network of national geoparks) is unesco assisted network established in 1998. managed under the body's ecological and earth sciences division, the ggn seeks the promotion and conservation of the planet's geological heritage, as well as encourages the sustainable research and development by the concerned communities.
