Q A Acura Rl 97 Auxiliary Cooling Fan Not Working Troubleshooting Tips I have an acura rl 97 and my auxillary cooling fan did not turn on. the relay for it melted, i do not know why, and i drove for about 3 4 years with this problem without my car overheating ever. when i went for brake, work to honda dealer i provided a new relay for them to replace the melted one with, and they removed the relay. The first thing that you would want to do is locate the fuse for your rl’s radiator fan and make sure that it hasn’t blown. if it is blown, replacing the fuse will only solve the problem for a very limited period of time. unless the wiring issue is fixed, the fuse will blow again. the wiring harness itself can go bad.

Here are the most common ways a radiator fan can stop working: if the fan isn't running at all: blown fuse or malfunctioning relay. bad fan motor or wiring issue issue with the fan control module. issue with the coolant temperature sensor. obstructed fan blades. Inside the two boxes are relays for the fans. when you're standing in front of the opened hood, open the first box and the 3rd relay from left is the main fan relay. next to it is the condenser fan relay (for the a c). when you open the box behind, you will find the fan relay to the most left. check the relays, maybe they are broken. Fan timer unit the fan timer unit is located in the kick panel on the passenger side. it controls the working of both fans. that means: when the engine oil temp is above approx. 92 °c (198 °f) after the engine is stopped, the radiator & condensor fans goes on to cool the engine for a time of maximum 15 min's.
