How To Set Up A Fishbowl The Right Way No Filter No Heater Keeping fish in a bowl without a filter may seem like a simple and low maintenance option, but it actually requires more attention and care than a filtered tank. a filter helps to remove waste products, such as ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, from the water and maintain a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria. Oct 13, 2022. #1. this is my most recent project. i've been getting more into low tech nano setups lately, and this is my first serious kick at the can. the bowl vase is about 2.5 gallons or so. i used fluval stratum for the substrate. the light is a full spectrum led, the lominie pixie 30 freshwater. no filter, no heater. This tank has no co2, no bottom fertilizer, no fancy led light (simple 12w cfl light) and a tiny powerhead for water circulation. as a plant i used rot. rotundifolia, lindernia rotundifolia (works submerged and immersed), jawa moss, helantium tennelum (foreground) and val. nana ( veeery slow growth and min. light). This nano tank aquascape tutorial covers 10 steps: 1) place nano jar on a flat sturdy surface. 2) fill mesh filter bag with substrate or gravel. 3) cover mesh bag with light colored substrate. 4) select a stone with vertical height. 5) position stone on top of buried mesh bag. 6) add aquarium safe wood.

The 8 gallon biorb flow is an awesome choice if you want an upright tank, as its 15.5 x 10.25 inch base will fit nicely on a desk but the volume is great for a single betta or a few nano fish. but it’s the 5 stage filtration system that makes biorb aquariums unique, and really helps keep maintenance to a minimum. The walstad method is a natural method for making your own balanced aquarium (or ecosystem) that can be almost completely self sufficient without a filter or regular water changes. a "balanced ecosystem" has fish and aquatic plants that support each other and will not require any co2 injection or added fertilization. this means both your plants.
