Cut them flush with the top of the cake. frost the outside of the cake and scrape off most of the frosting with a bench scraper. (this is called a crumb coat.) chill in refrigerator. repeat the process for the middle tier and top tier, putting each on a cake board that is slightly larger than the cake. First, get your station prepped. you'll need to grease and line all of your cake pans with parchment. preheat your oven to 350f. mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in the bowl of your mixer. with the mixer on low, slowly add pieces of softened butter to the dry mixture. Grease three 9×2 inch round cake pans, line with parchment paper rounds, then grease the parchment paper. parchment paper helps the cakes seamlessly release from the pans. (if it’s helpful, see this parchment paper rounds for cakes video & post.) whisk the cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together.
