Lexus How To Replace Sunroof Moonroof Motor Clublexus I decided to replace the moonroof motor unit and take the whole moonroof assembly out of the car and clean the tracks re grease everything. new moonroof motors were too expensive from the dealership ($309 cad tax) so i decided to order a recycled one from ebay to see if it would work. Posts: 53. from my experience with it you don't have to completely remove headliner but you do have to at least slide it back to rear of vehicle in order to remove sunroof motor, which requires removing front and rear grab handles, map, dome and rear lights, sun shades and their holders and pop out all trim around headliner. Step 6 – install new motor and re install headliner. install the new moonroof motor in place of the old one. secure it in place with the old bolts and the fasteners provided in the moonroof motor package. plug in the motor harnesses. then, re install the headliner (in reverse order of the removal process). Remove enough clips to peel the trims back just enough for the roof liner to drop down several inches. it would be easier to remove the motor with the roof liner completely off though. * only the metal casing on the motor needed to be removed to access the brushes.
