Film Review Zebraman 2004 Hnn Billed as “the first takashi miike film the whole family can enjoy,” “zebraman” sets aside the gore of this prolific young director’s horror, gangster and slasher films to embrace. With the massive success of 2010’s 13 assassins it’s easy to forget that, oh, just a year ago director takashi miike was more well known for his typically surreal cinema efforts, which have included such feats as a woman shooting darts from her, uh, private regions and people regularly being cut in half. 2004’s zebraman is one of those.

Zebraman is at its best when takashi miike kicks back and lets his mania go at its most fun. this isn't your typical ultra violent or taboo smashing fare from the director; if anything, it's miike at his most playful if you can call a man in a zebra costume fighting little green men from outer space in power rangers style as playful and actually hearkens to his mode of nostalgia that happens.
