Bmw 320d Egr Valve Cleaning Youtube This is my first video about egr valve disassmbly and cleaning by bmw 320d e90. sorry for my bad english pronunciation ; ). 10mm wrench (screwdriver attachment) engine cleaner degreaser. a wire brush. step 1. remove engine covers, the egr is located on the front right side of the engine. step 2. on the side of the egr valve (right side) is a small pipe which slides off. step3. loosen and detach the breather pipe ( 1st image below no1). Cleaning the erg valve thoroughly will take up to an hour. i found degreaser alone is not enough and a wire brush and a flat blade screw driver essential in order to poke the crud off the valve. all in all approximately 5 hours work, (air filter, breather filter & erg valve) although some may complete the job more quickly. a job well worth doing. I watched a video about cleaning egr valves and in it they said if you open the valve and then close the vacuum hole with your finger the valve should stay open. if not the diaphragm is damaged. but it was for corvette. but i did the test anyway. and the valve just closes.
