I've replaced the coolant flanges on two 1.8t's a 1999 passat aeb and a 2002 audi a4 amb. both of them were a royal pain to do. i do recall that the o ring on the 99 passat between the flange and the block had basically turned to mush and needed replacing. the o ring on the coolant sensors for both flanges were definitely bad.
